"End Coal (Newcastle)"
Today I gave this painting "End Coal" (Newcastle) to the Greens regional Offices at Mullumbimby as an encouragement and gift for all their hard work and bravery in all efforts to save the planet Earth. Often I hear "I'm glad you're saving the planet and not me!'... well, the Greens are not the only ones doing all they can every day to rescue us all from the worst blow global warming could deliver, but they are definitely the ones brave enough to enter the existing system of democracy and have a go! I am grateful to every activist and Greens politician that ever served our great country, Australia, and hope the Greens will secure enough votes in both the upcoming Federal and State elections to make a difference.
Since this protest in Newcastle, new coal has been stopped in the area. " Plans for a $5 billion coal terminal in the world's biggest coal port in Newcastle have been scrapped." (http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-05-31/plans-for-five-billion-dollar-coal-loader-scrapped/9821890). " Last week’s announcement that the T4 coal loader would not proceed is a great outcome for the people in Newcastle and the Hunter, led by a six-year community campaign by the Coal Terminal Action Group, a coalition of 20 community and environment groups including the Hunter Community Environment Centre, and many local heroes, who have been fighting for the region’s future beyond coal.
